Cold Headers, Inc. was formed in 1962 by H D “Did” Duncan and A J Cada as a nationwide master distributor of socket screws and related industrial fasteners. The two partners had a combined experience of over 40 years in the fastener and tool and die industry and planned to stress fast efficient service to better compete with established distributors. The original building was a storefront on Elston Avenue with an office up front and about 4000 square feet of warehouse space in back where the bulk inventory was stacked two or three kegs high on rows of wooden pallets.
The economy was booming in the 60’s and the space saving, internally wrenched, high strength socket screws were being designed into more industrial equipment and machinery than ever before. Cold Headers kept up with the demand and soon acquired the adjacent building on Elston Avenue for additional warehouse space. Much of the credit for the growth of the company has to go to UPS, which greatly expanded their package delivery territory during these years, making our efficient service available to many new fastener distributors who were springing up all over the country.
In the 70’s, a new warehouse with a 20 foot ceiling was built on the original site, which allowed us to get the screws up off the floor onto steel racks. Soon after came two more warehouses across the street, along with what developed into a top of the line machine shop. As the 80’s rolled around, there was an intense foreign and domestic competition for the standard size fastener market. Cold Headers then shifted the direction into the non-standard or “special” size corner of the industry. We went “all in” for odd increment lengths, extra long lengths, odd diameters, and non-ferrous materials in every type of fastener we carried.
Today, Cold Headers is still known as the “go to “master distributor for “inch size” special socket screws and related fasteners in North America. Currently, we are working hard to become your main source for special METRIC fasteners in all materials, along with a full line of standard metric sizes as well.
